Devils Trumpet

Always a wonderful plant – it was a gift several years ago and has continued to bloom. It also has liked the abundant rain this year. The blooms open at night and wilt away the next day when the light gets bright. Maybe that’s where the name Devil’s Trumpet came from – loving the darkness and hating the light.

The passage I’ve included with this second series of Blooms and Scripture is from 2 Peter 1:3-8. It begins by saying God has given us everything that we need to live a fruitful and effective life – and it’s only through that power that we can live such a life. It then outlines the process we should follow to reach that goal. Three thoughts from that: 1. it is a lifelong process, so we can’t expect instant perfection 2. but we should be working toward that. 3. The love God has given us, allows us to live in love – which is our goal.

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 1:3-8

Blooms and Scripture 9

Wild Asparagus

Wild Asparagus

Not exactly a bloom but I thought it was neat. It’s out in the Tree Garden – probably 500 yards from the asparagus bed I had ten or fifteen years ago. I don’t know how they spread but this one went far and wide and stayed around a long time.

For this very reason, make every effort to supplement…godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love”  2 Peter 1:7 ESV

Yucca Plant Leaves

We have a line of these growing along the ditch-bank. I think they’re wild Yucca plants but not sure. Anyway, they have beautiful blooms.

For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness,” 2 Peter 1:5-6 ESV

Pink Hibiscus – don’t remember the variety

The swamp hibiscus is new this year. The pink one has been fantastic for several years. I’ve used several pictures of it in the blog.

For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge,” 2 Peter 1:5 ESV
